I spent a chunk of my time yesterday preparing for Sunday’s message. Man, was I challanged by what God revealed to me about generosity! I’m looking forward to sharing with The Bridge folks on Sunday. Jesus said, “If we sow sparingly, we will reap sparingly. If we sow bountifully, we will reap bountifully.” It’s a pretty simple law, but I’m not sure how much we buy into it as Christians. We can always tell based on how much we sow. Giving is not loosing. It’s sowing. A farmer knows that he is cheating himself by being tight fisted with how many seeds he plants in the ground. Why don’t we get that? The farmer is at rest knowing that the seeds for the following harvest is in the coming harvest. Why don’t we get that?
Tight Fisted

Hey Jumaine! I was just checking in to see how things with you and Expression were going. Your post about the Great Outdoors gave me goosebumps (nice because it’s 85 degrees inside my house in Los Angeles). But this post in particular really spoke to me… when Michael and I lived in Hong Kong, the pastor of our church spoke on this same topic. At the end of the sermon, he asked for 10 people to come forward. I was propelled out of my seat. He gave each of us $1,000 Hong Kong Dollars (roughly $150 US dollars) and said to go and sow it! We had to report back in a few months on what happened. For me, I kept trying to give it away… someone would open up that they were about $150 short on their rent, or couldn’t pay a bill or couldn’t afford a gift for their daughter’s 16th birthday. So I would hand it over. But the weird thing was that it just kept coming back! We would get a totally unexpected rebate check in the mail, or the bank found an error in our favor, and all sorts of other random things. I couldn’t give away that money fast enough! The more we gave it away, the more we would get back. We had no fear of going without because God mightily provided in ways that only He can. He is good!
