Today, our launch team handed out 16 cases of free custom labeled water near the Woodley Park Zoo metro station. That’s 384 bottles of water…in less than an hour! Can you believe it? The water label contained The Bridge’s logo and information about our September 9th launch. I’m still pumped. Many people were grateful for [...]

Ten Faces of Innovation Part 5: The Hurdler

Here are some Tom Kelley quotes to kick things off. “Hurdlers do more with less. They get a charge out of trying to do something that’s never been done before.” “Hurdlers know that you don’t always have to tackle a challenge head-on if you can find a way to sidestep it.” It’s easy to become [...]
The Open House

Our first “Open House “went well last night. Once we got to the Modern Times Coffeehouse, I found it to be more crowded than I realize. That’s when it hit me. “I have to cast the vision of our church in a room filled with unbelievers.” I was expecting the room to be empty. Boy, [...]
Ten Faces of Innovation Part 4: The Cross-Pollinator

The Cross-Pollinator creates something new by connecting unrelated ideas or concepts. This is where the fun begins! Cross-Pollinators know how to take ideas and concepts from an unrelated filed, industry, or environment and transplant them successfully into theirs. In my few months of church planting, all our ideas were not grafted from the church world. [...]

It’s always easy to stick with what is tried and proven than to try something new. The Experimenter is one who tries different ideas and approaches. They are willing to embrace failure as part of the adventure. At The Bridge, everything has been an experiment. Expression was a big experiment for us. There was no [...]

The first face of innovation is the Anthropoligist. The Anthropoligist watches people. No, I’m not talking about stalking. In this role, we take time to observe individuals in our communities and surroundings. What are their behavioral patterns? Likes? Dislikes? Do they move fast or slow? Where do they shop? What types of things do they [...]

I got a chance to meet with Mark Batterson yesterday. Mark is a great guy. He is the pastor of National Community Church. He shared some great insights on church planting and having services in a movie theater. It’s a blessing to see how God is using them to impact Washington DC. They are located [...]

As we all know, today is the 4th. This means three things: 1) Mom’s birthday, 2) Hanging out with the wife, and 3) Putting everything else on hold to prioritize my family. Oh yes! And 4) Fireworks!
Ten Faces of Innovation Part 1: The Devil’s Advocate

Imagine this. You’re sitting in a meeting and present an idea that you are passionate about. Everyone begins to get excited, until someone says, “Let me just play the Devil’s Advocate for a minute.” Before you know it, your idea has been killed and buried…with a complementary funeral. Not only that, but now your cheerleaders [...]
Double Feature

I decided to take today off and spend it with my wife. We did a double feature at the AMC: Live Free Die Hard and Ocean’s 13. We took an hour long stroll in the park between the movies. Tomorrow, it’s back to the grind of church planting.
